Clear acrylic lends itself beautifully to laser engraving, a process of removing layers of material using a beam of light to etch the surface permanently. Corporations have presented acrylic awards for decades to recognize outstanding employees for such achievements as sales, teamwork and outstanding customer service.
What makes acrylic clear?
The short answer is nothing, the long a bit more complex. Extruded or cast, clear acrylic is a polycarbonate thermoplastic derived from natural-gas. Clear acrylic is made by combining Methyl Methacrylate with a catalyst, the resulting monomer is left in its virgin state of clear producing an acrylic resin that is poured into a mold or extruded. Commonly clear acrylics are poured into a mold made of glass on the top and bottom allowing for different thicknesses of cast acrylic sheets. After the resin is poured into the mold, sealed and heated for a specific time and temperature to complete the chemical reaction.
Once the acrylic sheets are removed from the mold, they can be fabricated by cutting on a saw or more commonly in the awards industry laser cut and polished to a crystal-clear finish before laser engraving or printing corporate text and logos.
Why choose clear acrylic?
Clear acrylic awards have been a value alternative to glass and crystal for the past three decades. Bringing the cost of fine corporate recognition down and providing significantly more alternatives to custom trophies. Easily fabricated, clear acrylic can be carved with extraordinary facets, polished to pristine finishes or etched with a matte finish to enhance their beauty. Facets carved and polished into acrylic capture light and reflect it back highlighting company logos and text prominently. Easily laser engraved, nothing beats clear acrylic when displaying your corporate brand and keeping the cost down is important to your recognition program.
Do color logos look good on clear acrylic?
Newline Trophy is capable of adding your corporate logo in full color to many of our clear acrylic awards. Using an ultra violet direct print process, logos and designs are often printed on the front or back of clear acrylic. Clear acrylic is a perfect option if you want to represent your business logo in full color since its clearly superior finish highlights color printing to enhance any corporate brand.
