A PROJECT THAT ROCKED OUR WORLD
Newline Trophyis known for our high-quality corporate awards and engraved products. From crystal trophies, plaques and acrylic awards to engraved name tags, people tell us we are the best in the industry. When we have an opportunity to work on a unique project like the one shown below, it allows us to demonstrate the skill and creativity that goes into some of our custom awards.
Hopefully you will enjoy seeing this project as much as we did working on it . . .
Many of our projects begin with an email from a client. Our normal procedure is to follow-up by phone in order to touch base and fully understand our client’s needs. This project started with an email from our client, like this:
“Thanks again, Mike, for the fix on the glove trophies.
“Following up on our discussion, I sent you some pictures of the Conglomeratethat is being sent to my office Friday. We need to have trophies made by the morning of April 9.”
(The request was for . . . one of his ideas is a small, beautiful copper mineral or ore on a solid wood stand).
He continues: “My thought is to set these pieces on a nice wood base with a copper plate like the boxing glove trophies that says, ‘_______ Site Visit - April 2018’, with a logo of our partner and their guest.
“I welcome your thoughts and appreciate your confirmation that you can assist us in this short time frame.”
(TRUST ME –- THE IMAGE SHOWN ABOVE DOES NOT DO THE SAMPLES JUSTICE!)
This is a good time to explain why I will not reveal some portions of our communication. Images, logos and text will sometimes be blurred in the interest of confidentiality. We take our responsibility to clients very seriously, and this company prefers that we not use their name in promotional material, or to co-brand in any way.
After a quick phone call to let Dan know we were interested, and felt confident we could do a good job, on deadline, I scheduled a meeting to see the rock samples. In our onsite meeting, it was clear the stones he needed mounted were not only beautiful but would look even better if we were to polish their faces (all still had saw marks and were rough-cut).
POLISHING THE BEAUTY
Next, I called Rembrandt Countertops & Baths,a granite and solid-surface manufacturer in Phoenix. Even though they were extremely busy, they graciously agreed to handle the job. As always, Howard and his staff did a fabulous job on the rocks.
When I thanked Rembrandt, their response was, “what we do all day is polish rocks!”
CHOSING A BASE
We’re fortunate to have suppliers that have many custom trophy-base options. In an effort to highlight the beauty of the polished stones, we needed a base that was not overpowering. We selected a solid walnut base with a flat profile and “footprint” that could accommodate the size and shape of the stones.
CREATING THE ART
The native copper in the polished stone was so beautiful, there was no question in our minds to use other than a copper plate with a direct, ultraviolet printed image that would contrast nicely (customer logos and identifying text have been removed for confidentiality purposes). This art was sent out to our client and approved prior to production.
PRINTING THE PLATES
One of our special tools is a direct-color ultraviolet printer, capable of printing on metal, glass and acrylic. From full-color logos on trophies and awards, with a unique raised imprint, to highly detailed name badges and name tags, Newline Trophyis pleased to offer this exciting product line.
FINAL ASSEMBLY AND CLEANUP
At Newline,we take great pride in the custom trophies and awards we produce. Attention to detail is what sets us apart. In order to make sure the customer is happy with the finished product, every trophy base, plate and stone is carefully inspected prior to assembly.
A BASE BEFITTING A FINELY-FINISHED PRODUCT
Now that the products are completed, all will see that the beauty of the rocks has justified the extra care that went into polishing them!
